Risser’s Mill

Aka Roddy / Horst’s Mill

Rissers Mill

James Roddy (Rhoddy) built the first mill here around 1721. Michael Horst took over in 1802. Peter Horst built the current structure in 1816. The mill was closed by Peter Horst Risser in 1940.

Note: James Roddy also built the mill on the Chiques Creek later known as the Newtown Mill. The Newtown mill was owned by a Risser in 1812. Most of the old references to a “Risser’s Mill” are referring to that mill, which is south of Mount Joy. This mill was the Horst’s mill for most of its history.
