Andrew Herscher (Hershey) built a sawmill here in 1789. Christian Hershey upgraded it to a grist mill in 1792. The mill burned down in 1814 but was rebuilt. It was destroyed by fire again in 1917 and then rebuilt again the following year, albeit with one less story. The Elstonville mill is now owned by Hollinger Rentals LLC and is being used for storage.
