Weaver’s Mill is a two and a half story stone and frame mill located in East Earl township. The mill is near to where the Cedar Creek joins the Conestoga River. The mill appears as an unassuming structure on a typical Lancaster County farm. But the building played an important part of American history just prior, during, and after the American Civil War.
Mathias Shirk built a woolen mill here in 1813. That mill burned the following year and was rebuilt as a grist mill. In 1834, it became the location of Gideon Weaver’s wheel wright shop, which turned out scores of Conestoga Wagons during the time when many people were heading west.
Aaron and Christian Weaver converted it back to a grist mill in 1880. Today it is used for farm storage.
