Aka Rock Furnace

Built as a rifle factory by Andreas and Veronica Kauffman in 1770, this mill was converted to a grist mill in 1794. John Stoneroad purchased the mill in 1851, giving it the name “Stoneroad’s Mill”. Milling operations ended sometime in the early 20th century. It served as the headquarters for the Lancaster Art Association beginning in 1947. The covered bridge that once was adjacent to the mill was destroyed by Hurricane Agnes in 1972. Today, the mill serves as a private residence.
The mill is located at 1560 Stone Mill Road.
