Rome Mill

Rome Mill

Johannes Hess built a hemp mill sometime around 1769. Christian Hess converted it to a grist mill in approximately 1790. That mill burned down in 1884 and was replaced by the current frame mill. Milling operations ended by the turn of the century. It served as a pretzel bakery for the Sturgis Company in the early 20th century. It was refurbished into offices in 1994. Today it is being used for storage.
